BI Audit

BI Audit improves the performance of business intelligence system - by identifying bottlenecks in ETL processes, solution architecture, required IT infrastructure, interfaces, visualizations, and reports.
BI Audit will be useful for companies
Use BI solutions implemented on the Qlik or Fine BI platforms and strive to improve the efficiency of them
Already using BI platforms
1.
Have not used BI systems before, only forming requirements for implementation and need to analyze the readiness of the infrastructure and data sources
Just planning to implement an analytical solution
2.
When does a BI solution need an audit
Works slowly
Reports are generated with delays, the application is unstable, data is loaded slowly. You're missing the necessary steps in the data extraction and transformation process, or these steps are not automated enough
Difficult to make adjustments
It is difficult to scale the solution, connect new data sources, create new reports and dashboards, add features or analyze new slices of information
Not user-friendly
Working with a BI system requires the constant participation of the IT service, employees do not have enough technical knowledge to use the solution, self-service capabilities are absent or minimal
Increased cost of ownership
The cost of ownership of the analytical solution is constantly rising, the application places high demands on system resources
A BI application audit done by a team of experts helps find ETL-process errors and opens new possibilities for using the data. Audit lowers the total cost of ownership of the solution and shortens the time it takes to prepare analytical information.
What problems does BI audit solve
1
Reducing data errors
Audit helps to anticipate and avoid errors that can slow down data-driven management decisions and increase lost profits
2
Choosing the right solution for your needs
In the case of the initial BI platform implementation, audit will allow you to choose the best solution for specific business tasks, taking into account the existing IT landscape
4 key areas for BI audit
Qlever's audit methodology includes an analysis of 4 key areas of the Qlik based solutions functional:

  • at the business process level- visualization (dashboards) and data integration and optimization (ETL processes) are checked
  • at the IT level - the solution architecture and IT infrastructure are analyzed
Each of the 4 analyzed areas to some extent affects either the CSI index (Customer Satisfaction Index) - the degree of satisfaction with the BI application, or the level of performance of the analytical solution.
Let's take a closer look at the impact of 4 key areas of analysis on the CSI and Performance indices
If there are failures and errors at the visualization level (Dashboards): formulas are incorrect, indicators are calculated slowly, UX/UI design is not worked out, then business users begin to use such applications less and less - the CSI index decreases.

Also, the index of satisfaction with a BI application is affected by the logic of its construction, which is analyzed in more detail in the Solution Architecture block. IT infrastructure and ETL processes affect the CSI index even less, users may not know what is "under the hood", what kind of servers are installed and why there are so many of them. As part of the audit, we carry out detailed diagnostics for each block indicated in the scheme.
